Emelia is Lincoln Southwest senior who loves art, running, 7 Brew, and her tortoise, Steve. For her senior session, she envisioned an refined yet organic feel with lots of candid moments. When we got together for her planning meeting, we chatted through her outfit options and chose locations to match each one while keeping the overall vision in mind.
On the day of her senior session, everyone knew exactly what to expect since we went over all the details in advance. I always adjust the start time of a session for the number of outfits + locations, so time is never rushed, and we move at the pace the session needs.
Emelia loves plants and flowers, so the rose garden was the obvious place to start. She brought a bouquet, and the soft light and blooms all around made the first part of the session feel easy. These are some of my favorite images from the whole day. They’re bright, airy, and refined.
Partway through, her best friend showed up with 7 Brew, which is about as Emelia as it gets as she stops their almost daily. Having her bestie there with her favorite drink brought a deeper level of comfortability – plus, it made for some fun images!
Next we went to Holmes Lake, one of my favorite spots for Lincoln senior sessions because it has so much variety in one place. We used the open field and walked up the grassy hill as the evening light started to warm up. Each spot gave her gallery a different feel. This is also where Steve made his debut. He walked around the grass and hung out while Emelia held him, creating some great candid moments turned out to be some of the favorites from the session.
We also did a few photos in her Lincoln Southwest track uniform. Running is a big part of who she is, and it felt right to document that. Her senior year should look like her whole life, not just one side of it.
We ended the night the way Emelia had been hoping to all along: in the water at Holmes Lake, right as the sun went down. She’d been looking forward to this moment the whole session, and the sunset was gorgeous. Everything turned golden and glowing around her. It was the perfect ending.
After graduation, she plans to attend UNL and eventually go to law school – so excited to see where life takes her!
